Dot Mobile

I saw this adorable mobile on Samster Mommy, but since we are having a boy I figured I should make it a little more 'manly', you know not quite as delicate as butterflies. I found adorable monkey scrapbook paper at Michaels and some ribbon and set about cutting out circles. I glued them together with with ribbon in between and hot glued them to the wreath form I found at JoAnns. Easy but time consuming, which was perfect since I never feel like doing much after work.

It is a little long so I am sure I will have to do some adjusting, we will see how long it takes the cats to find it and Jaxton to be able to reach it.

"Subway Style" Art

'Subway style' art has been popping up on all of my favorite blogs. They are usually a variation on family rules or holiday decoration. Well, we don't have family rules and I wanted something I hang on my mostly bare walls in our itty-bitty apartment, so I came up with this.

I started by coming up with a saying that makes sense to us, is not too sweet and sappy (we are just not that type) and is relatively short. I came up with my favorite verse from our first dance song, Nothing Else Matters by Metallica. I did a quick count of the different letters so I would know how may packs of vinyl letters I would need. I headed to Michael's a pick up a double pack of cheep canvas', two packs 1" of vinyl letters (found next door at staples) and a can of spray paint.

My verse is 7 lines long, but the last one could not, no matter how much I wanted it, fit on one line so I hand to make it 8. I measured the canvas and put tick marks along both ends, then used a piece of thin painters tape R had in is tool box to mark the top and bottom of my lines. This worked perfectly as my letters were 1", my lines were 1 1/4" and my tape was 1/4" wide.

Then I carefully lined up each word, well...I eyeballed most of the spacing, I did want it to look homemade and not like a computer/ machine did the work. I then applied two coats of spray paint, let dry and Sidonie and I peeled off the letters.

Voila!! Art!

I think I am going to use the rest of the spray paint to repaint the little table by our door that holds our phone charges and keys....
