Hockey! and Other Randoms

A few random things I wanted to share.

First Zoey...

She had her tongue sticking out for a good 10mins, just wondering around...R saw her, started laughing and picked her up. She hung out for a few minutes then jumped down and wandered around some more, I finally touched it so she would put it back in her mouth and we could move on.

Second Bones....

Just look at that cutie!!

Lastly....

Sidonie and I are playing in the 10th annual Flying Mules hockey tournament here in Missoula this weekend. Our first game is this afternoon.

Go ICY HOT!!

Layerd Tee - Kind of

I found this blog and loved the the look of the tees. So I rummaged through my old shirts and found a short sleeve that used to be my favorite until I wore it decorating the Christmas tree and got sap in two places. I did not have a long sleeve in a color I liked so I used another short sleeve and cut out shapes to place underneath the cutouts. R thought I was a little crazy cutting up my shirts but he actually said he liked the finished product without me prompting.

Coffee Cup Cozy

I saw one of these a while back somewhere in the vast world wide web and now that I have my very own sewing machine I can make one!

It was supper easy

First you have to buy a steamy hot cup of coffee and ask for a sleeve...I know terrible thing right?!

You will also need two pieces of fabric, a piece of batting or some type of sewable backing to make it a little thicker/ sturdier, a 3" piece of elastic or an old hair tie, a coordinating button, any embellishments your heart desires, rickrack would be cute around the edges

Take your sleeve home and trace it and add a seam allowance (whatever your preference). Here is mine...

Use your template to cut out your top and bottom fabrics and your middle material. Pin your elastic to the top piece making sure your loop is big enough to fit your button through. Sew over it many time using a zigzag stitch.

Place your top piece face up, your back piece face down, and your batting on top of the pile. Stitch all the way around following your seam allowance. Leave a 3" section along the bottom curve of your cozy to turn rightside out.

(Yes this fabric is different...the first one I made was too small apparently I cannot do math....)

Snip the corners so they will lie flat, turn right side out and press flat. Sew around the edges making sure to get the hole in the bottom closed up.

Position the cozy around your 1/2 empty :) cup of coffee (or you can just guess) and mark where you want your button to be. Remember that you want your elastic to be slightly tight so the cozy will not fall off. Sew your button on and you are ready to enjoy!

You can customize these any way imaginable, I think some rickrack around the edges would be cute, using two small buttons instead of one large one, make them reversible, etc.

Mod Podge Fun

Due to hockey and work I have not had a whole ton of free time this week to do a very big project but I have 'fixed' a few little things that have been bugging me.

First is the spice rack I got after our wedding. I figured it would have a few spices and a few empty bottles so I could put my own spices in, I was wrong. I cook, but nothing to fancy and half of these spices I had never heard of so the whole thing sat unused on my counter for over a year, not any more.

I cut out 20 circles to cover the tops of the jars, Mod Podged them to the tops along with the names of the spices I printed off of the computer.

I found the most used spices in my cupboard (onion powder, garlic powder, cinnamon, etc) that was not included in the spice rack. Then I filled the newly decorated bottles with those and the old bottles with the spices I do not use.

Much better!

My other Mod Podge project so far this week was to cover the logo on my camera bag. R got me this great bag for Christmas, he dose not know much about cameras and thought I had a Sony, I have a Canon.
I do not have a before picture but where I covered the case with fabric it said Sony (not only do I have a Canon, and you cant keep a Canon in a Sony bag, I also do not like free advertising). I cut two pieces of fabric to match the area I wanted to cover, applied a layer of MP, my fabric, and three coats of MP on top. Good as new!

Camera Strap Slipcover

I love color. I hate free advertising. My camera strap was a large black billboard for Canon. And that had to be stopped.

Solution :

My strap measured 24.5" x 1.5" so I cut a strip of material 26.5" x 4"

Fold in the end 1/2" and press, then fold 1/2" again (your raw edge is now tucked it) and press. Do this to both ends.

Stitch ends, I used a large zig-zag in a contrasting color.

Fold your cover in half length-wise pin and press flat. Sew closed, make sure you reinforce the ends. Turn right side out and press one more time.
The ends of the strap are slightly thicker than your cover so I used a small rubber band to hold it closed.

Pull the cover over your strap and ta da! You can make them in all sorts of colors and you will never get board.

Photo op over. ShitHead or erm Zoey thought it was a toy for her, oh joy (insert dripping sarcasm)

I also tried making this one out of old hockey skate laces, not sure I like the way it turned out, I may have to try again...

Christmas, Sewing, Catching up

Merry Christmas! Happy New Year! I know I am a tad bit late but I have been go, go, going since Christmas. I hope everyone's Christmas was as enjoyable as mine was and you got to spend time with family and friends and eat waaay too much food! We got to spend Christmas eve with R's parents and Christmas day with mine, it is so nice to have both our parents so close.

Yesterday was the first day in eight days I was not at an ice rink. New Years week the girls had extra practices to get ready for the Kalispell tournament and New Years Eve R and I went skating just the two of us. Friday morning we drove up to Kalispell had two games, had another two games on Sat, and one more Sunday morning. We won 4 lost one, to ID Falls a very close game and the kind of competition we will have at state.

It the little spare time I have had I have been putting my new sewing machine to use (thank you mom!) First order of business was to make a cover for it since I really have no room and it most likely will be living on the dining room table for awhile. I found the heavy duty fabric on the sale table at Joann's, and got some bias tape to add some color.

I do not know the measurements because I cut and pinned, cut and repined. I used one long panel to cover the front, top and back, and two small rectangles to cover the sides.

The kittens got a new 'cat' bed for Christmas (it is round, fuzzy, has a head and a tail) When we first gave it to them Zoey would grab the tail and drag it down the hallway growling. She has accepted it but does not sleep there much, mostly it is Ally's as you can see.
